Wild Thyme

Scientific name: Thymus serpillum. 

Common name: serpillo, thyme serpillo, pepolino, iildd thyme. 

English name: spanish origanum. 

Parts used: flowering tops, leaves. 

Components: essential oil (0.15-1% thymol, cimol, phenol, carvacrol). 

Properties: antiseptic, purifying, antifungal, balsamic. 

Directions for use: thyme has a general tonic activity and is an intellectual stimulant. 

Essential oil: its essential constituent is thymol; it externally exerts a bactericidal and fungicidal activity. 

Curiosity: the name goes back to the Greek verb thiein = to perfume.
